Whenever you create a new website or blog for your business, the first thing you probably want to happen is have people find it. And, of course, one of the ways you hope they will find it is through search. But typically, you have to wait around for the Googlebot to crawl your website and add it (or your newest content) to the Google index.
So the question is: how do you ensure this happens as quickly as possible? Here are the basics of how website content is crawled and indexed, plus some great ways to get the Googlebot to your website or blog to index your content sooner rather than later.

What is Googlebot, Crawling, and Indexing?

Before we get started on some good tips to attract the Googlebot to your site, let’s start with what the Googlebot is, plus the difference between indexing and crawling.

• The Googlebot is simply the search bot software that Google sends out to collect information about documents on the web to add to Google’s searchable index.
• Crawling is the process where the Googlebot goes around from website to website, finding new and updated information to report back to Google. The Googlebot finds what to crawl using links.
• Indexing is the processing of the information gathered by the Googlebot from its crawling activities. Once documents are processed, they are added to Google’s searchable index if they are determined to be quality content. During indexing, the Googlebot processes the words on a page and where those words are located. Information such as title tags and ALT attributes are also analyzed during indexing.

So how does the Googlebot find new content on the web such as new websites, blogs, pages, etc.? It starts with web pages captured during previous crawl processes and adds in sitemap data provided by webmasters. As it browses web pages previously crawled, it will detect links upon those pages to add to the list of pages to be crawled. If you want more details, you can read about them in Webmaster Tools Help.
Hence, new content on the web is discovered through sitemaps and links. Now we’ll take a look at how to get sitemaps on your website and links to it that will help the Googlebot discover new websites, blogs, and content.

How to Get Your New Website or Blog Discovered

So how can you get your new website discovered by the Googlebot? Here are some great ways. The best part is that some of the following will help you get referral traffic to your new website too!

• Create a Sitemap – A sitemap is an XML document on your website’s server that basically lists each page on your website. It tells search engines when new pages have been added and how often to check back for changes on specific pages. For example, you might want a search engine to come back and check your homepage daily for new products, news items, and other new content. If your website is built on WordPress, you can install the Google XML Sitemaps plugin and have it automatically create and update your sitemap for you as well as submit it to search engines. You can also use tools such as the XML Sitemaps Generator.
• Submit Sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools – The first place you should take your sitemap for a new website is Google Webmaster Tools. If you don’t already have one, simply create a free Google Account, then sign up for Webmaster Tools. Add your new site to Webmaster Tools, then go to Optimization > Sitemaps and add the link to your website’s sitemap to Webmaster Tools to notify Google about it and the pages you have already published. For extra credit, create an account with Bing and submit your sitemap to them via their Webmaster Tools.
• Install Google Analytics – You’ll want to do this for tracking purposes regardless, but it certainly might give Google the heads up that a new website is on the horizon.
• Submit Website URL to Search Engines – Some people suggest that you don’t do this simply because there are many other ways to get a search engine’s crawler to your website. But it only takes a moment, and it certainly doesn’t hurt things. So submit your website URL to Google by signing into your Google Account and going to the Submit URL option in Webmaster Tools. For extra credit, submit your site to Bing. You can use the anonymous tool to submit URL’s below the Webmaster Tools Sign In – this will also submit it to Yahoo.
• Create or Update Social Profiles – As mentioned previously, crawlers get to your site via links. One way to get some quick links is by creating social networking profiles for your new website or adding a link to your new website to pre-existing profiles. This includes Twitter profiles, Facebook pages, Google+ profiles or pages, LinkedIn profiles or company pages, Pinterest profiles, and YouTube channels.
• Share Your New Website Link – Once you have added your new website link to a new or pre-existing social profile, share it in a status update on those networks. While these links are nofollow, they will still alert search engines that are tracking social signals. For Pinterest, pin an image from the website and for YouTube, create a video introducing your new website and include a link to it in the video’s description.
• Bookmark It – Use quality social bookmarking sites like Delicious and StumbleUpon.
• Create Offsite Content – Again, to help in the link building process, get some more links to your new website by creating offsite content such as submitting guest posts to blogs in your niche, articles to quality article directories, and press releases to services that offer SEO optimization and distribution. Please note this is about quality content from quality sites – you don’t want spammy content from spammy sites because that just tells Google that your website is spammy.

How to Get Your New Blog Discovered

So what if your new website is a blog? Then in additional to all of the above options, you can also do the following to help get it found by Google.

• Setup Your RSS with Feedburner – Feedburner is Google’s own RSS management tool. Sign up or in to your Google account and submit your feed with Feedburner by copying your blog’s URL or RSS feed URL into the “Burn a feed” field. In addition to your sitemap, this will also notify Google of your new blog and each time that your blog is updated with a new post.
• Submit to Blog Directories – TopRank has a huge list of sites you can submit your RSS feed and blog to. This will help you build even more incoming links. If you aren’t ready to do them all, at least start with Technorati as it is one of the top blog directories. Once you have a good amount of content, also try Alltop.

The Results

Once your website or blog is indexed, you’ll start to see more traffic from Google search. Plus, getting your new content discovered will happen faster if you have set up sitemaps or have a RSS feed. The best way to ensure that your new content is discovered quickly is simply by sharing it on social media networks through status updates, especially on Google+.
Also remember that blog content is generally crawled and indexed much faster than regular pages on a static website, so consider having a blog that supports your website. For example, if you have a new product page, write a blog post about it and link to the product page in your blog post. This will help the product page get found much faster by the Googlebot!

Another tip that works well is to put a NON SPAMMY link to your new site on an existing high traffic (and frequently Googlebot-visited) site.
For instance simply doing a short blog post on one of the other sites you manage. Something like “Hey as you know I have been working on blah.com. Well we launched it today and you can get the new whatever here: NEW WHATEVER (link).”
To me this is secondary only to submitting a sitemap in webmaster tools.
Here’s another pro tip – I wouldn’t even bother posting to Reddit or Delicious unless your content is epic and your title is catchy.

What is indexing of a website?

I know many people here are not aware of the term indexing. Indexing in SEO means, making search engine keep a record of your WebPages in search engine. We should target all major search engine (Google, Bing). Usually when a search engine bot comes on your site, it starts crawling and based on “index” and “Noindex” meta tags, it adds pages with “index” tags in search engine. Here is the synopsis of strategy which I used to put both the website in search engine within 24 hours. Apart from Onpage SEO optimization like meta tags, meta keywords, meta description and On site SEO (Noindex, nofollow) robots.txt, sitemap main strategy was put the website in search engine in few hours.
Well, before you try to index a website (new), make sure you have your content ready. As you don’t want Google bot to come and just crawl your empty homepage. As I mentioned above, make sure you do all basic On site SEO and then work on the below method to  get your site indexed fast.

Well, this strategy should work with all website as we will be using external sites to send crawler on our site. Though, it all depends how fast Google update the new indexed pages, or if you are doing this for your client, you might like to check index status in all countries to check for data replication delay.

We talk about blog directories and blog networks and most of SEO expert they were the things of the past, but it’s not that true. Even today it works. But like old time, you should not submit your blog to every blog network or blog directories. Instead submit your blog to selected blog network and directories. Commenting Dofollow/Comment luv

Since it was a paid job and had to get it done within given time frame. I added almost 30+ comments for both the blog on comment luv blog. I didn’t checked for dofollow or nofollow attribute. But what I did was, commented on popular and high traffic blogs. This confirmed that search engine bots will follow the comment link and will land into my blog and that’s what happened.

Popular website Stats program :

How many of you know about Websites which keep stats of domain or show the price and value of any domain. This is a nice way to get your site indexed. Though submitting to multiple stats site is not easy and we can use free tools like IMT website submitter. All you need to add link and anchor text and IMT submitter will submit your site to sites like who.is, “website stats” and other such sites. Here is the link : IMT Website submitter.

Social Bookmarking submission :

This is another method which is very effective. Though somehow within 4 hour my website was in search engine and I didn’t had to go for social bookmarking submissions. If you wish to start, you can start with Google Plus, Stumble Upon, Facebook (Public share), Twitter for faster indexing of your content.

Guest posting:

If you budget is high or you have patience, prepare 5-10 quality posts and ask your fellow blogger on the same niche to publish on their blog as guest author and enjoy the backlink. If you doing it for a client, buy 5-10 articles and do the same. Along with backlink it will also help to get some traffic for your blog. Try to guest post on popular , high page rank and regularly updated relevant website.

Ping Services:

Ping services are another one great effective way to notify search engine for your existence. Pingomatic  is one such tool which you can use to notify multiple service at once. Though WordPress has default feature to ping services, but giving it a shot for the first time won’t hurt. Another one which you can try out is Pingler.

Above screenshot is done for one of my website and I just tried indexing that parked domain site for the testing purpose. So, kindly avoid the meta description shown.  But for your website, make sure you add meta description and all other SEO details. You might not like search engine to index useless pages and part of your Website.

Here is an exclusive list of Websites, directory and places where you should submit your blog. Most of the sites listed here are free and if you are creating a new blog/Website or have not submitted your existing Website to these places, you should go ahead and create one.
This also includes many social networking site and social bookmarking profile. It’s not an extensive list like 1000 sites or something, but I’m creating a list of those sites which are important and will be helpful in either search engine ranking or tracking your site report.

Where to submit your Blog?

Let me start the list with Webmaster tools as it will be first step to get your site on search engines. Submitting you blog to other sites will help in better indexing and crawling of your blog. Specially when you create a new blog, it takes time for search engine bots to find your blog and crawl it, by submitting your site to these Websites which is listed below, it will help in faster indexing. I’m not adding those directories or sites, which asks you to place a link back to verify the site ownership, as it will be considered as two way link exchange. Though, there are few directories which are quite useful and you may consider adding the link for a day or two just for the verification.
Many of these sites like Alltop requires you to have feed on your blog, so I recommend you to burn your feed using Feedburner before you get started.

Google Webmaster tool:

This is official tool by Google, where you can not only add your Website but also submit your sitemap to Google. This will ensure, Google will quickly crawl all your links and index them. More over, GWT works as free SEO tool for your website. You can apply various SEO techniques using GWT data.

Bing Webmaster tool:

Official Webmaster tool by Bing, and like Google tool, submitting your blog to this place will ensure your site is visible in Bing. Learn how to submit website to bing webmaster tools, and how to use bing webmaster tool.

Alexa :

I’m sure many of you might not see Alexa as a credible source of ranking information and we have already discussed about this. Though, I always find alexa reporting to be useful and close to accuracy and more over, it’s a useful place to find Keywords. Facebook:

Facebook could be really huge for your blog traffic if you do the marketing right. In order to submit your Website to Facebook, you need to create a Facebok fan page and that’s how you start. Simple and easy.

Google plus:

Like Fb, we can create Google plus page for our blog or Website and this works as starting point of your blog footprint on Google plus. Learn how to create a Google plus page for your blog.

Twitter:

Twitter is one of the famous micro-blogging and social networking site. I already discussed why your Website needs an official Twitter account and having a profile on Twitter for your blog, will help you to get a free link. Not for new blogs, but if you have a quality blog, make sure you add your blog to Alltop. Very useful for giving good exposure to your site.  Requires you to create a free account before submission. Link to submit

Pinterest:

Pinterest is a popular image based social networking site. When you submit your blog to Pinterest, and verify your profile, you earn a free high quality backlink. More over, it will help in improving your brand online presence. Join Pinterest.

3 Steps To Get Your New Website Indexed In 2 Days

Last time we have shared how to index your website in 24 hours and now Lee is sharing some more SEO tips to get your blog getting indexed quickly in search engine.
Whenever we build a new blog or website, we always want it to be indexed by Google as soon as possible. Usually it will take about 1-2 weeks for Google to crawl and index your new blog or website, in fact we can make the index process even faster, it may take 1-2 days to get indexed. There are many ways where you can do to make the index process faster, such as blog commenting, link exchange, and etc.
Recently I create a few micro niche websites which target high paying keywords with minimum competition, usually the websites have only 1-2 pages each. After I setup the website, I’ll do something to get them indexed as soon as possible. If the competition is low, definitely it will rank well and start receiving organic traffic.
What I did was very simple, I’ll test the micro niche website in a list of website value sites, website value site is website that tells you the value of your website, says how much it worth and etc. Normally these sites have high pagerank and easy to get indexed by Google. Therefore, whenever you test your site, the website value site will generate the result in a new page. With that said, you’ll have a backlink from each website value site you submit. Once the new page is indexed by Google, then your link will be easily crawled by Google spider and will be indexed soon.

3 Steps To Test Your Website And Get A Backlink

1) Here is a list of website value sites. Copy them and paste in a notepad, replace the “yourdomain.com” to your website URL. Some of them may or may not work, but it doesn’t matter, just use all of them.

2) It will take you longer time to open one by one to test your website, now you open the website URLOpener.com, copy all the website value sites from the notepad and paste into the URLOpener, and press submit.

3) When you press submit, all the websites will be opened in a new tab. Hold for a minute for them to load. Once all of them have been completely loaded, close all the tab and you’re done!

I’ve been creating tons of one page micro niche website and make money with Google Adsense, so I want all of them to be indexed by Google as soon as possible and pull in some hardcore cash in short time.

Content is by far the most important criteria for search engines.  Sites that update their content on a regular basis are more likely to get crawled more frequently. This is simpler than trying to add web pages or constantly changing your page content.  Static sites are crawled less often than those that provide new content.

7. Block access to unwanted page via Robots.txt

There is no point letting search engine bots crawling useless pages like admin pages, back-end folders as we don’t index them in Google and so there is no point letting them crawl such part of site. 8. Monitor and Optimize Google Crawl Rate

Now You can also monitor and optimize Google Crawl rate using Google Webmaster Tools. Just go to the crawl stats there and analyse. You can manually set your Google crawl rate and increase it to faster as given below. 9. Use Ping services:

Pinging is a great way to show your site presence and let bots know when your site content is updated. There are many manual ping services like Pingomatic and in WordPress you can manually add more ping services to ping many search engine bots. You can find such a list at WordPress ping list post.

Directories are proved to be very beneficial in driving traffic from search engines in large amount. Since Technoarti and DMoz are considered as authoritative & active directories, bots will come to your site by following your site listing pages on such directories.

11. Interlink your blog pages like a pro:

Interlinking not only helps you to pass link juice but also help search engine bots to crawl deep pages of your site. When you write a new post, go back to related old posts and add a link to your new post there. This will no directly help in increasing Google crawl rate but will help bots to effectively crawl deep pages on your site.

12. Don’t forgot to Optimize Images

Crawlers are unable to read images directly.  If you use images, be sure to use alt tags to provide a description that search engines can index.  Images are included in search results but only if they are properly optimized. You an learn about Image optimization for SEO here and you should also consider installing Google image sitemap plugin and submit it to Google. This will help bots to find all your images and you can expect decent amount of traffic from search engine bots, if you have taken care of image alt tag properly.
Well, these are few tips that I can think of which will help you to increase site crawl rate and get better indexing in Google or other search engine. A last tip which I would like to add here is, add your sitemap link in the footer of your site. This will help bots to find your sitemap page quickly and they can crawl and index deep pages of your site from sitemap.

Probably, every Blogging or SEO blog you have read till now, I’m sure Google Keyword planner (previously Keyword Tool) and “Keyword research” are not a new term for you.  But if not, you are missing out the basic of any Blog SEO.

Blogging has evolved from just quality content to SEO optimized social content. Writing quality content is must, but at the same time it’s good to have the properly optimized article to rank well in search engines. This is where, on page SEO comes into the picture. On the page, SEO starts with selecting the right keyword for your post, and the keyword should be one which have search volume. That means people are searching for that particular keyword.
Here is one question you should ask yourself: Even though I’m writing quality content, why I’m unable to drive enough traffic from search engine? Well, I’m sure Google doesn’t have anything against you until unless you are doing Black Hat SEO. The reason is, you are not writing on topics that people are searching for. Or even you are writing on a topic that is trending, but you making it hard for search engine bots to understand your content. I have already  covered how to write SEO optimized articles in WordPress, and today you will learn how to use Keyword planner tool for researching Keyword.
To start with; if you are not sure, why Keyword search before writing a blog post, you should read my post on Importance of Keyword in SEO.

What is Keyword research?

Lets get to know the basics first. In layman language, Keyword research is the process of identifying Keywords, which get the good amount of search volume/month. For example, Keyword: “KeywordSpy”, “Website SEO optimization tip” and so on.  The idea behind performing a research is to, find the keywords that can give maximum traffic and comes with less competition. I will discuss competition part later in this post. For example: When you do an exact match search:  “WordPress SEO plugins”, “Best WordPress Plugins for SEO ” both gives the entirely different picture in terms of traffic.

By doing a complete Keyword search, you will be able to find keywords to drive targeted traffic, more revenue and more niche traffic. More over, when you are planning to target a small niche, for example “Bug Spray”, doing a Keyword search will help you to find many new Keywords that you might be missing out. You can also analyze competitor site and find keywords which they were ranking for. Doing a comprehensive Keyword research based on the data, can drive immense traffic to your site.  And by the end, the sale happens only when you are getting targeted traffic. Isn’t it?

What is Google Keyword Planner tool:

Google Keyword tool is an official product from Google, which gives us a traffic estimation of our target Keywords and also help in finding more relevant and related Keywords for your niche. Few Important things to know:

• You need to have a Google Adwords account to use Google Keyword planner tool. It’s free, and you don’t need to spend any money to use this tool. You can simply create an Adwords tool and start using it.
• You can also search for existing Google Adwords coupons to create one free account for yourself, and start using Keyword planner tool.
• This tool is created to target Adwords advertisers, but it still give a great deal of information when it comes to finding the right keyword for your blog and articles.

This is what the homepage of Keyword planner tool looks like. All you need to do is enter your target Keyword that you want to start searching for. After that, you can add filters such as for which country you want to target your keywords (In below example, All location is selected).

1) Enter your product or services:

This is the place where you will put your target Keywords. For example, my next post in on Keyword research, and I’m not sure what keyword I should be targeting that post for, I will do some searches based on my knowledge like you see in example, and it shows me results globally and local search.  The idea here is to find a Keyword that has good traffic but low competition. If you are working on a blog for the long-term goal, you can also target high competition Keyword, using resource pages. For ex: WordPress guide. It makes take time before you see your keyword ranking at the good position. Below image illustrates the difference between Broad search, Exact search and phrase search.

2) Search type:

This is one important column that you should be taking care of. There are three options for search type:

• Broad
• Exact
• Phrase

Exact Match: Exact searches, shows the traffic for exact match Keyword. For example, if you search for WordPress SEO in exact match, it will be different from broad search in great way. My suggestion, prefer Exact search when you are doing research for your micro-niche site and broad search when you are writing on the personal blog. Ex: Keyword Research Broad Match: Broad Match is my favorite, as it let me target long-tail keyword, and your traffic is not limited to exact match words. For Bloggers, broad match is useful but that again depends upon your blog type and target. Ex: “Keyword-based research” Phrase: Phrase type is useful when you need Keyword in an exact phrase. For example: “Best Keyword Research”. Keyword position won’t be changing, but it gives the data for traffic, that your Keyword might be getting for phrase search.

3) Advanced option and filter:

This feature is set to add more filters into your search. For example Country search volume, Language and target device (Computer or mobile devices). Depending upon your target audience, you can set everything including the category.

4) Understand Keyword tool column:

Notice the pointer 4 in the above image and now, understand the meaning of each column.

• Competition: Just to clear one myth about this tool, competition field doesn’t show how hard and easy it’s to rank for that Keyword. In fact, it shows the competition among advertisers bidding on that keyword. So, if you see “low” for a great keyword, mark it and later we will see how we can easily analyze the competition.
• Global monthly search : Global monthly search shows the average of search happened in last 12 months globally.
• Local monthly search : It shows the search volume based on your filter. For example, in above image I have applied filter for U.S as country and notice the huge difference between global and local search volume.
• Approximate CPC : This column shows approx. CPC (Cost per click), for an advertiser. Many SEO guru’s recommend to use this column to find Adsense CPC Keywords It’s a good idea to pick high CPC keywords, where advertisers are bidding more but with low competition.

For this tutorial, lets keep it simple and lets keep our example for broad search type.

Performing Keyword research using Google Keyword tool:

I hope this must have given you a basic understanding of Keyword tool by Google works and now, we will move to real deal here. Our target is to find some low competitive but high-medium traffic Keyword using Google search, Google Keyword research tool and Traffic Travis. We will be using Traffic Travis to analyze the competition and if you are new to it, read Traffic Travis review. Now, when you start with Keyword research, here is a quick question: What is better? Getting 100 un-targeted visitors or 10 targeted one? If your answer is “Targeted”, then don’t leave those Keyword with low traffic. Since it’s relevant to your niche, in long run it will help you. Make sure to check “Google traffic trend” too, which will help you to check your target keyword traffic pattern over the time.

Discover Keyword using Google Instant search:

Google instant search is my first basis of finding a perfect Keyword. It’s more like a Keyword discovery tool, which you can use to generate tons of ideas. Though, you can’t actually use all of them, but for initial step it’s good to brain storm some ideas for K/w research. Put any Keyword related to your niche, for example, I started typing “SEO Keywo” and Google instant search suggested search results. Depending upon your post type, you can pick couple of them which make sense to you. Look at this screenshot: Once you have found 3-4 such Keywords, start adding it to Google Keyword suggestion tool and perform a search. So I  picked two keywords from the list: “SEO Keyword Search” & “SEO keyword research” as both are similar and make sense for my niche, and I can come up with a post on that. Now next step is to find if these two Keywords are going to do any benefit in terms of traffic, or just going to be another article with not much value from traffic POV. Lets move on to next step:

Keyword search analysis:

Now, I will put both the Key words in search tool and perform a search, it will give me details for search type I’m performing and also show relevant Keyword ideas. Now, that is keyword goldmine for you, as it will let you find many relevant Keywords that you can target in same post or else can come up with a follow-up posts.

I usually target 2-3 Keywords/post. You can create your own SEO strategy depending upon your post quality and length. So, for the information sake, we have selected only Two keywords as shown in above picture and it’s time to check, which one of them is less competitive. Before that, you can change your filter to see if your target Keyword has any exact match type or not.

Checking Keyword competition using Traffic Travis:

There are many Keyword competition checker tool and some of them which I usually use are SEOmoz Pro and Traffic Travis. T.T being a desktop solution is easier to use. Open Traffic Travis and go to SEO > Competition tab and enter both your Keywords and perform a search. You will see a result like this:

As you can see here, according to competition checker tool, “SEO keyword search” is easier to rank. These tools, consider many factors that includes domain age, backlinks, on Page SEO, page rank, DMOZ submissions and many more factors. You can also click on “view details” to see more detailed results for your competitor. Here is a detailed competition report for my target Keyword : (For first top 10 results)
As you can see, from the result on how important it is to have Keywords in your Title, description and H1 tag. Along with above mentioned points, backlink and social media promotion is one major factor for better ranking. Also, my suggestion book your domain for longer time-period, like 2-3 years.

What next?

So now, we have one keyword with us, and similarly you can find many keywords related to your niche. It might be the little time-consuming but it’s worth more than spending un-targeted ten posts. Now, your next target should be writing a Keyword optimize article (SEO copy-writing), and you can refer to our earlier guide on OnPage optimization.
Never forget, this Keyword research is just a primary steps, and real magic starts with your content. Moreover, never try to get traffic on the wrong keyword, as it will affect your overall blog performance in terms of Avg. Time on site and bounce rate. What is Anchor Text And Why it’s Important for SEO

SEO has changed a lot in 2014 and especially with algo changes like Penguin update, game of back-linking has changed ultimately.  One of the most important aspect of backlink is Anchor Text. Now, many of you must be wondering, What is Anchor text and what’s the use of it. Text which shows when you hover on a link (Tooltip) is call anchor text.

Now, there are many direct and in-direct advantages in term of SEO and I will point out some of the most important one here. Now, when ever we ask you to write a blog post, Keyword research and Onpage optimization is important. By the end, your blog post must have 1-2 Keyword. Now, one of the mistake which most of the Blogger does is, just linking back to old article with text like “read here” “more information here”, which technically, doesn’t give much value to search engine. A standard and most useful way to link back to your article with Anchor text technique is by using your target keyword to link to.
This is not only for Internal links, but when  you are working on your Guest posting campaign, you have to make sure you are getting links from other domain with Anchor Links. Though, with recent Penguin update which is a part of SEO over optimization, I suggest you to maintain a good ratio of money and non money related text.
For example, if my blog Keyword is “Make money Online” and my brand name is “ShoutmeLoud”, technically most of SEO’s will suggest to get links with keyword “Make money online’, but a correct approach would be using mix of Keywords. For example, I would be using Keywords like “Make money online” “Make money from blog” “ShoutMeLoud” “Shout Me loud” “Harsh Agrawal” to get links to my homepage. Though, I will also make sure links should be of high quality and 50% of links which I’m getting should be my target Keyword. This way, you will be keeping a good mix of your brand and more over, your backlinks will be more fruitful and free from any Google algo updates in future.
In WordPress, it’s easier to use Anchor links, as when you add a link to any Text, you get an option to add title and that works as Anchor text. See below Screenshot:

Let me start with direct benefit from reader’s perspective, as they will get more related links to visit and your bounce rate will go down.  It will also helps in improving Avg. time on site and blog page views. Though, when you are linking back to your article, Make sure you link to related topic only. Irrelevant linking will be irritating for readers.

SEO Benefits:

Above, I just explained how such backlinks with anchor text helps a lot to understand more about the page and recently with my SEO campaign, I have seen huge increment in search engine position of one post, with one backlink. Just keep a good proportion of 50-20-20-10 of your target anchor Keywords. Also, when you are getting a link back, target internal pages too, instead of only homepage.

Co-relation between similar content:

Now, I here write about WordPress all the time and if I will start linking “WordPress plugin” to different post related to WordPress plugins, it will confuse search engine and I will miss out the deserving ranking for any post. Instead, I use WordPress plugin to link to specific post and best WordPress SEO plugins to another.
If you are Google analytic user, you can check which page are ranking for which keyword. Now when ever you have to link back to that particular page, always use that keyword as anchor text. This will give more weight-age to that post.
One of the mos common mistake, which I have seen on Websites is not using their Popular posts and random post to utilize the Anchor link technique. Make sure, your post is showing post title when you hover (Related posts, random posts) and so on, this increases the value of link and make your internal linking strong.

We all know what does it mean to rank#1 in Google and real keyword fights being, when you are targeting ranking position 1-2 or least 3rd.
