4 killed as eight bogies of Muri Express derail in UP

At least four persons were killed and nearly 200 injured when eight bogies of the Rourkela-Jammu Tawi Muri Express, which left Odisha’s Steel City at 11.45 am yesterday, derailed near Sirathu in Koshambi district of Uttar Pradesh this afternoon.

It was, however, not immediately clear if there was anyone from Odisha among the four killed.
It was also not clear what led to the derailment.

“The accident happened at about 2 pm today. One particular compartment has been badly damaged in the mishap,” said Railways PRO Vijay Kumar.

Besides, S-5, S-6, S-7, A-I, A-2 and B-2 bogies have also been damaged, he said.
Three of the eight bogies were AC compartments, four second class sleeper coaches and one general compartment, Railway sources said.
Senior Railway officials have rushed to the accident site while a rescue train has also been dispatched to ferry the injured to the hospital, the sources added.
Union minister of state for Railways Manoj Sinha and district officials have also rushed to the spot for relief and rescue.
