@POTUS [Barack Obama(BO)- @BarackObama ] Joins Twitter, Jokes with @billclinton

Although
he and the White House already had Twitter accounts, Barack Obama
wasn't given his own President of the United States account on Twitter
until Monday. Within hours he was approaching one million followers --
and conspicuously following almost every Chicago sports team except the
rival Cubs. Here's a look at some other notable first tweets.
The bear is loose... on Twitter.
So, it's official. After years of signing "-BO" at the end of @BarackObama to
signal the tweets he crafted himself from an account operated by the
Organizing for Action staff, the President now has his very own handle @POTUS, tweeting for the first time:
"Hello, Twitter! It's Barack. Really! Six years in, they're finally giving me my own account."
And some asking the question on a lot of people's minds, what happens to the handle when a new President takes office?
Good question, @billclinton. The handle comes with the house. Know anyone interested in @FLOTUS?

According to a White House official, @POTUS handle will transfer to the next President when Obama leaves
office on 2017. President Bill Clinton even had some fun with the news,
tweeting: Welcome to @Twitter, @POTUS! One question: Does that username
stay with the office? #askingforafriend
For
his banner photo, the President chose a powerful image from the 50th
anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery marches, where he, first lady and
Congressman John Lewis (D-Georgia) led a commemorative march, hand in
hand, over the Selma Bridge.
Per a statement from the White House,
the @POTUS handle "will serve as a new way for President Obama to
engage directly with the American people, with tweets coming exclusively
from him."
Naturally, folks on social are having a little fun with this new presidential social presence:
And Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy tweeting a gif of the President with a selfie stick:
In the meantime, we'll just wait for your first GIFs and selfies, Mr. President.

He follows 65 people, surprisingly none of them are foreign leaders.
"Hello, Twitter! It's Barack. Really! Six years in, they're finally giving me my own account," was Obama's first message on the micro blogging site yesterday.
Four hours later he made his second tweet about his visit to New Jersey.
"In Camden today, seeing first-hand how smart policing is making the community safer while building trust," he tweeted.
His third tweet, which was in response to a tweet by former US President Bill Clinton attracted quite a bit of attention.
"Welcome to @Twitter, @POTUS! One question: Does that username stay with the office? #askingforafriend," the former US President asked.
Obama responded soon, saying, "Good question, @billclinton. The handle comes with the house. Know anyone interested in @FLOTUS?"
So far Obama follows 65 accounts on twitter, which mostly involves members of his Cabinet, key White House officials, important departments and some of the popular sports teams from Chicago - his home town.
The @POTUS Twitter account will serve as a new way for President Obama to engage directly with the American people, with tweets coming exclusively from him, the White House said.
"Obama is committed to making his Administration the most open and participatory in history and @POTUS will give Americans a new venue to engage on the issues that matter most to them," it said.
