Hi, I would like to share a life threatening incident happened to me and my friends on 11th Dec 2013. I along with my 2 friends was travelling from Haridwar to Delhi in a UP roadways bus no - UP11-T-3181 of Baraut Depot. The bus stopped for breakfast at a restaurant Named Food Plaza near khatholi (MuzaffarNagar UP) at around 11 am. We ordered 3 stuffed paranthas and tea which we were initially informed will cost us Rs. 120 however after eating our breakfast, we were asked to pay Rs. 470. We obviously were not happy to hear the amount and asked for explanation and a copy of bill. The owner refused for the bill and said the extra charge was for the "Saag" and "dal" he gave with the parantha. We said that we will not pay the bill if the owner doesn’t give us a bill. As a reaction to this we were surrounded by about 7-8 men with 2 having a knife in their hand. They threatened us that if we did not pay the bill we will kill us and burry us behind the restaurant and nobody will even come to know. We paid like anybody else would have and rushed to the bus to complain it to the driver and the conductor of the bus. On listening to our story he said ‘what can we do about it’. That is all the reaction we got from the UP roadways staff. Obviously what they could have done is to stop at that restaurant in future but there seem to have some monetary benefit behind them stopping there. We were in shock for the rest of the journey and not sure how to report this incident. We were cheated and literally robbed in day-light and there is nothing we could do. I do not mind paying the extra for the food however when forced to pay while a knife on my neck is highly unacceptable and against the law. We cannot report this incident to the Delhi police as they will ask us to go to the police station near this incident happened. We do not want to go back to that place as we are scared. So this incident might just go un-reported. I am sure that this is not the first time this incident has happened in that eating joint. The minimum I expect is that the bus doesn’t stop at that place any more. I would like to bring to the notice of you that all we wanted was a safe journey to home but instead we got a terrifying experience. I would like to request to please take some action and see to it that such incident do not happen in future to any customer. The bus driver and conductor do not care and the authorities are unaware of such incidents happening. The bus should only be stopping at reliable restaurants who have clear menus and a transparent policy of providing a copy of bill.
