A bench consisting Justices AR Dave and Kurian Joseph said, “Let us do something. If possible, do something for the upkeep of the place and provide facilities for visitors.”
Even in the past, while responding to a petition filed by the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, the court had asked the Centre to file its response on facilities for the pilgrims.
Subramaniam Swamy had submitted that pilgrims, who are devotees of Lord Rama, are deprived of even basic facilities like drinking water and toilets and face difficulty due to inadequate arrangements made by both the Centre and UP government.
Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh said that the Centre would consider the plea made by Swamy.
Swamy had said the status quo order passed by the apex court in 1996 was limited to prohibit building of any structure at the disputed site.
In his application, he had sought an order from the apex court to “ameliorate the lot of millions of Hindu pilgrims who make the pilgrimage to the site of the ‘Ram Janma Bhoomi’ at Ayodhya, to have a ‘darshan’ and perform ‘pooja’.”

नई दिल्ली : सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने शुक्रवार को केंद्र व उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार को अयोध्या में विवादास्पद ढांचे के पास राम जन्मभूमि स्थल पर सुविधाओं की कमी की ओर ध्यान दिलाया। कोर्ट ने दोनों ही सरकारों से अयोध्या में राम जन्मभूमि के विवादित स्थल के समीप यात्रियों के लिए बेहतर सुविधा मुहैया कराने पर विचार करने के लिए कहा है।
न्यायमूर्ति एआर दवे व कुरियन जोसफ की पीठ ने कहा कि कुछ तो कीजिए। अगर मुमकिन हो, इस स्थान को बेहतर रखने और आगंतुकों को सुविधाएं देने की दिशा में कुछ कीजिए। हमें कुछ करना चाहिए।
इससे पहले, न्यायालय ने श्रद्धालुओं को सुविधाएं देने के संबंध में भाजपा नेता सुब्रमण्यम स्वामी की याचिका पर केन्द्र से जवाब देने को कहा। सुब्रमण्यम स्वामी ने न्यायालय को बताया कि अयोध्या में राम जन्मभूमि स्थल पर भगवान राम के दर्शन व पूजा के लिए लाखों तीर्थयात्री पहुंचते हैं।
भगवान राम के अनुयायी तीर्थयात्रियों को पेयजल और शौचालय जैसी आधारभूत सुविधाएं भी नहीं मिल रहीं हैं और अपर्याप्त प्रबंधों के कारण उन्हें कठिनाई झेलनी पड़ रही है। उन्होंने शीर्ष अदालत द्वारा पारित 1996 में यथास्थिति बनाए रखने के आदेश का भी उल्लेख किया।
