Along with promoters Top Rank and Mayweather Promotions, they have filed a complaint with a federal court in Florida against boxinghd.net and sportship.org, which had announced plans to live-stream the fight. They’ve asked for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction, as well as, rather oddly, damages to compensate for expected losses and legal costs.
According to TorrentFreak, it’s the first time ever that a lawsuit has been filed over piracy that hasn’t yet taken place – Minority Report, disappointingly, not having attracted the same concern.
But the complaint claims that the two sites have form. “Plaintiffs are informed and believe and on that basis allege that Defendants have a long history of promoting infringing streams of copyrighted broadcasts of boxing matches,” it reads, listing the May 4, 2013 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Robert Guerrero, as well as the July 12, 2014 fight between Erislandy Lara and Canelo Alvarez, as examples.

Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao pose for photos after a news conference in Los Angeles.
The stakes are high. Excitement about the contest – six years in the planning – means it’s expected to raise more than $300 million. At least half of this will come from pay-per-view sales at up to $100 a time – in numbers expected to significantly exceed the 2.48 million that watched the fight between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.
And because it’s a live match, HBO and Showtime have a narrow window of opportunity to collect. While people are still prepared to pay for, say, Game of Thrones for quite a while after its initial screening, few will have much interest in watching the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight once it’s over and the result is known.
This makes it a potential gold mine for the streaming sites too, who have been advertising shamelessly.
“If you can’t afford to buy tickets then simply watch Mayweather vs Pacquiao here,” read the ad on boxinghd.net. “We will provide with nothing but the freshest and the most reliable high quality live links.”
But the threat appears to have worked – at least for now. Both boxinghd.net and sportship.org have been taken offline, although  Showtime are still calling for a court order actually shutting the sites down to make sure that they don’t magically reappear on Saturday.
And they are, of course, just two sites amongst many. In Showtime still have a massive job ahead if they’re to make a serious dent in piracy on the big night. Teams of experts will no doubt be hard at it detecting pirate links and attempting to get them taken down.
There’s always the option of paying to watch at one of the many sports bars screening the fight.
However, entirely by design, many viewers around the world will be able to watch the match in the comfort of their own homes for substantially less than the $100 price in the US.
In the UK, for example, it’s available through Sky Box Office for just £19.99, or around $31. In Scandinavia, it’s around $60, and in Spain just $13. In Pacquiao’s home country, the Philippines, the fight will be broadcast live on both cable TV and free-to-air.
And in Mexico, TV companies Televisa and Azteca have also won the right to show the fight for free; get a good deal on a flight, therefore, and it might just be worth considering a weekend away…

With On Sale Looming, Cheapest Floyd Mayweather Vs Manny Pacquiao Tickets Still Over $4,000

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather stood face-to-face for the first time in an official matter on Wednesday, when the two boxers held their one and only press conference at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. A red carpet was rolled out for the event that was available for over 600 credentialed media members in person and streamed for millions more on the internet. While the fight was announced weeks ago, the press conference served as the kickoff for what is being dubbed the Fight of the Century.
Securing a ticket for the fight this May could be as difficult a feat as what Pacquiao and Mayweather are facing in the ring. At the end of Wednesday’s press conference, it was stated that an announcement would come soon for an on sale date for tickets and prices will range from $1,500 to $7,000 at face value. The two boxing superstars are set to square off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 2, but overwhelming ticket demand has sent common fans and A-list celebrities alike on a mad dash to get their hands on the minimal amount available.
Less than 200 speculative tickets are currently listed on the secondary market, and the average price for Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao tickets on TiqIQ is now $9,252.31. Get-in price isn’t much lighter on the eyes, either, as the bout’s cheapest ticket is currently listed at $4,175. According to Hipmunk, hotels in Vegas for that weekend are up significantly as well, with the cheapest rooms all well above $150 per night.

Of course, celebrities have the opportunity to get past the turnstile at MGM Grand for free, but they’ll have to pay a moral price. Multiple reports have claimed that celebrities who are willing to endorse specific company merchandise, in particular t-shirts donning logos and names, will be provided with a ticket at no cost. Watching the fight as a walking advertisement may be considered too submissive for many, but with current ticket prices making it the most expensive event TiqIQ has ever tracked, no act is too much if a free ticket is the endgame.
Earlier this week, the Daily News reported that Ronda Rousey would be the only celebrity that would receive a comped ticket to the prestigious fight. Bob Arum, a notable ticket promoter and fan of Rousey’s, is offering the 28-year-old a free pass on May 2 in the aftermath of UFC 184 last month, when Rousey pummeled Cat Zingano in just 14 seconds at the Staples Center. In the days prior to her fight, Rousey expressed interest in attending the Las Vegas fight, going so far as to say that she would spend a considerable amount of her fight earnings on tickets. She is one of the few – if not only – to find a route around massive prices and promotional gestures.
Tickets will also be hard to come by due to the size of the venue. The MGM Grand Garden Arena has a capacity of 16,800, while a fight of this stature could easily sell out an arena of at least twice the size. Mayweather, Jr. has fought his last 10 bouts at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and brings an undefeated 47-0 record and 26 knockouts to Las Vegas with him in May. Pacquiao has fought five of his last seven fights at the MGM and has gone 57-5-2 with 38 knockouts in his career. Negotiations between the two date as far back as 2009, but the two boxers will officially knock gloves in Sin City on May 2.

Six years in the making and finally the fight has come. Undisputed Pound For Pound King Floyd Mayweather Jr will finally face his long time nemesis designated by the world as he takes on Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV on May 2nd. This will be the biggest fight in boxing history when it comes to revenue, with both fighter’s expected to bring in over $200 million combined in purses. Floyd Mayweather could make up to $150 million while Manny Pacquiao could bring in over $100 million when it’s all said and done. The fans have waited a long time for this.

In its purest form, the upcoming boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is just that – a duel of fisticuffs between two high-level athletes. However, like any big sporting event, this battle represents so much more.
In 2008, Pacquiao defeated the aging legend Oscar De La Hoya in devastating fashion to claim pound-for-pound supremacy in boxing. The following year, Pacquiao quickly dispatched of Ricky Hatton in two rounds. Mayweather, the erstwhile pound-for-pound king, then quickly announced his comeback fight against Pacquiao’s career rival Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather showed no signs of ring rust as he thoroughly outboxed the technician Marquez. Since then, talks of a showdown between Pacquiao and Mayweather have persisted. After years of false starts, accusations and blaming, the big fight is finally upon us.
Under the bright lights of Las Vegas, an event that consists of national pride, lasting legacies, bragging rights and a reported US$300 million purse will be taking place. On the grandest stage in the City of Sin, there will be plenty of betting involved, too!

History:

Manny Pacquiao, coming from an impoverished upbringing in the Philippine provinces, began his pro career at the tender age of 16. After winning titles at flyweight and super featherweight, he won the IBF super bantamweight title from Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in 2001 (which was also his U.S. debut). Pacquiao rose to overnight fame when he demolished the Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003 to win the lineal featherweight championship. A huge underdog in the eyes of experts and bookies, Pacquiao proved the doubters wrong by stopping the Mexican legend in 11 rounds. Since then, Pacquiao’s hall-of-fame resume includes victories over the likes of Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.
A controversial loss at the 1996 Olympic Games ended Floyd Mayweather’s amateur career on a sour note. He turned professional shortly after and since then has not tasted bitter defeat like he did that day in Atlanta. His first title came at super featherweight against Genaro Hernandez two years after his pro debut. Wins over the likes of Zab Judah and Arturo Gatti made Mayweather a known commodity but it was his fight against Oscar De La Hoya that thrust him into superstardom. The highly-anticipated bout set records for pay-per-view buys and revenue. A fight with Ricky Hatton followed, along with a brief retirement until 2009. Nearly six years on and Mayweather has continued his reign as the self-proclaimed “best ever”.

Keys To Victory: Floyd Mayweather Jr:

Floyd Mayweather needs to do what Floyd Mayweather does…counter, time, and use the the best defense in boxing to fluster the aggression of Manny Pacquiao. Floyd knows what Manny is going to do. Pacquiao’s aggressive style plays right into Mayweather’s hands. While Pacquiao does use angle’s and feints to get in, he’s not as awkward as Marcos Maidana nor as big as Miguel Cotto. Floyd is going to be able to throw that lead right hand, and his straight jab, with a high connection rate because Pacquiao’s defense isn’t great. This is the first time since Juan Manuel Marquez that Floyd has fought someone smaller than him. Floyd’s pop shot technique will work wonders in this fight. He’s going to have to throw one-two punch combos and be gone as quick as he can. Every time Pacquiao tries to put together a combination Floyd needs to get out of the way, and land at least one punch while doing it. Floyd is a master at this. As stated above though, Floyd cannot allow to much defense to overtake his punch output. If he gets to lazy, lays on the ropes, and doesn’t throw a lot of punches, even if Pacquiao isn’t landing he will win rounds.

Keys To Victory: Manny Pacquiao:

Manny Pacquiao’s aggression, speed, and angle’s are going to be the key to winning this fight. He stands no chance standing in the middle of the ring with Floyd Mayweather. Pacquiao likes to feint in on the attack, moving his head side to side a bit, as he hunts down his opponent. This is going to be key against Floyd. Pacquiao hasn’t knocked out a legit welterweight fighter yet so I don’t expect him to knock out Floyd, who’s chin is greatly underrated. He’s going to have to “steal” rounds. He must take advantage of Floyd’s down times. When he gets Floyd to the ropes he’s going to have to unleash havoc on him like Marcos Maidana did. Punch him everywhere and anywhere. Continuing aggression is an absolute must. Floyd’s lead right hand is going to give Pacquiao a huge problem but if Pacquiao can land his lead left hand then he may be on to something. He cannot afford to stop pushing forward at any time in this fight. If he can steal rounds with a high punch volume he can win this fight in Las Vegas, where judging hasn’t been favoring Floyd Mayweather lately.

How will the fight end:
While Pacquiao was knocked out cold by Marquez not too long ago, he has shown a generally steady chin throughout his career. Mayweather was tagged hard by Shane Mosley in their contest but recovered quickly. While it’s likely that both fighters will be hurt at some point in the fight, a KO/TKO win is unlikely. This one will more than likely be decided by the judges.
