LIVE UPDATES ON SALMAN KHAN HIT-AND-RUN CASE VERDICT:
11.10 am: All 8 charges proved including 304 II. Salman Khan convicted under culpable homicide. Court says, he was drunk and was behind the steering wheel.
11.08 am: Salman Khan in witness box. Sentencing begins.
11.01 am: The courtroom is packed to capacity.
10.55 am: Rizwan Rakhangi, the witness, is giving TV interviews. He was the manager of the bar, where Salman Khan allegedly drank before driving.

10.50 am: Salman Khan’s lookalike is spotted outside the court giving interviews to media.
10.38 am: Salman Khan reaches court.

10.25 am: Media frenzy outside Gate 5 of Mumbai sessions court where the will be pronounced.

10.14 am: Salman’s younger brothers Sohail and Arbaaz and brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri arrive at the court.

Inspector Rajendra Kale, the inspector assisting the prosecutor who was given a notice for recreating the scene has attended every hearing. He says, “feels like an exam. When you prepare and write it, you feel like you would score high marks. After the exam, you wish to pass at least. It feels like that.”
9.27 am: Salman’s elder sister Alvira Khan and Baba Siddiqui, who had also arrived to meet the actor, have left his residence.

8.35 am: Salman’s defence: For the first time in 12 years, the actor’s driver Ashok Singh came forward and confessed that it was he who was driving on the night of the accident.
8.30 am: On the night of the accident: Bar manager Rizwan Rakhangi told the court that he had seen Salman sipping a clear liquid. Bar attendant Malay Bag said he had served Salman and his friends white rum and cocktails, besides prawns and chicken.
8.20 am: Abdullah Shaikh, 35, one of the four persons injured in the accident, is however “disillusioned” and feels this is a case of “justice delayed and justice denied”.
8.10 am: The actor is facing charges of culpable homicide and will face 10 years prison time if found guilty.
8.05 am: Khan is accused of running over five persons sleeping on a platform outside a bakery in Bandra, in his white Land Cruiser, early September 28, 2002, killing one of them.

A Mumbai court is set to pronounce its verdict in the 2002 hit-and-run case involving Bollywood actor Salman Khan. When Judge D W Deshpande pronounces his verdict in the 12-year-old case, there will be 100 policemen inside and outside the 52nd courtroom at the Bombay City Civil and Sessions Court to maintain law and order.
If convicted, Salman Khan would be taken into court custody and sent to Arthur Road jail until Prisons department decides which jail is suited for him.

A rumoured Rs 150 crore is riding on him in Bollywood, with such projects as Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in various stages of production. Salman’s brand endorsements are worth about Rs 200 crore.

Though known to have an extremely large heart and a huge fan following, Salman Khan has also made headlines for the wrong reasons. While we await the court’s decision on the 2002 hit-and-run case in a few hours from now, here’s a look at some of the controversies that the actor has been involved in.
