Three days after the Mandi tragedy, a video of the incident shot by a
local has come to light showing chilling scenes of death of 24 students
of Hyderabad engineering college. The four minute video shows how the
water level suddenly rose, hardly giving time to the victims to respond.
Despite some locals trying to alert the victims, the students and the tour operator could not save themselves as they were swept away within four minutes as they could not get down from the rock where they were clicking pictures.
Some students, who were on the bank, saved their lives jumping out of the rising water level.
Mandi Divisional Commissioner Onkar Sharma, who is probing the tragedy, said he would summon the original video and examine its contents.
Meanwhile, one more body was spotted during the rescue operation on Wednesday afternoon. Only five bodies were recovered prior to this.
Telangana Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy demands immediate army assistance in speeding the search operation.
Jeetender Reddy, TDP floor leader in Parliament, deputy leader Vinod, met Home Minister Rajnath Singh, asks him to depute at least 500 army personnel with latest equipments, including search lights.
A 10-member team of NDRF is reaching at the spot. Mandi police on Wednesday registered fir against project authorities under section 336 and 304a. The FIR was lodged by A Aditya, assistant professor of Hyderabad institute.

हैं. हैरान कर देने वाली ये तस्वीरें 'अमर उजाला' अखबार की वेबसाइट पर
डाली गई हैं. इस सनसनीखेज वीडियो में हादसे के पहले नदी के बीचोंबीच
खड़े छात्र मौज-मस्ती करते दिखाई दे रहे हैं. इसके ठीक बाद यह भी दिख रहा
है कि किस तरह अचानक नदी में पानी बढ़ने की वजह से महज 27 सेकंड के भीतर
लहरें तमाम छात्रों को अपनी चपेट मे ले लेती हैं.

18 छात्र अब भी लापता
गौरतलब है कि हिमाचल प्रदेश के मंडी जिले में ब्यास नदी की तेज धारा में बह जाने वाले हैदाराबाद के इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज के छात्रों में से 18 अब भी लापता हैं. एनडीआरएफ के कर्मचारी और सेना के जवान बचाव व राहत के काम में अभी भी जुटे हुए हैं. राज्य सरकार ने मामले की उच्चस्तरीय जांच के आदेश दे दिए हैं. एनडीआरएफ ने पिछले दो दिनों में छह शव बरामद किए हैं.
10 गोताखोरों के साथ 84 लोगों की टीम बचाव कार्य में जुटी हुई है. दुर्घटना स्थल हनोगी माता मंदिर के पास थालौट से पंडोह बांध तक खोज अभियान चलाया जा रहा है. बांध दुर्घटना स्थल से करीब 15 किलोमीटर नीचे है.
ब्यास नदी की तेज धारा की चपेट में आने वाले छात्र हैदराबाद के इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज वीएनआर विज्ञान ज्योति इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ इंजीनियरिंग एंड टेक्नोलॉजी के थे, जो मनाली घूमने गए थे. 60 से अधिक छात्र और फैकल्टी सदस्य मनाली पहुंचे थे.
इनमें से कुछ छात्र जब नदी किनारे खड़े होकर फोटो ले रहे थे, तब पास की ही लारजी पनबिजली परियोजना के बांध से छोड़े गए पानी के कारण ब्यास नदी की तेज धारा में बह गए. यह पानी बिना किसी पूर्व सूचना के छोड़ा गया था, जिसकी वजह से नदी का जल स्तर अचानक बढ़ गया. दुर्घटना स्थल राज्य की राजधानी शिमला से करीब 200 किलोमीटर दूर और कुल्लू तथा मंडी जिलों की सीमा पर है.

At least 24 students, including six girls, of the V.N.R. Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology in Hyderabad were reported missing after strong currents in the mighty Beas river washed them away.
Their chances of survival of the rest of them were bleak, officials said.
More than 60 students and faculty members were on an excursion to the picturesque tourist resort of Manali.
Some of them were getting themselves photographed on the banks of the river in Thalaut area near the Hanogi Mata temple when they were reportedly washed away as the flow in the river suddenly increased.
